Abstract

: In this article, the task is to assess the feasibility of switching to a closed-cycle economy model in the conditions of the cities of the Southern Federal District. The CE model is a strategy for sustainable urban development, which focuses on the recycling and reuse of resources within a closed system. The study focuses on the cities of the Southern Federal District, which are characterized by high food consumption and waste generation. The study examines the current state of waste management and resource use in these cities, and also examines the potential of integrating closed systems into waste management and energy generation. The official documents of municipalities were analyzed and it was found that closed chains have not been implemented in the region, waste management and recycling technologies have faced significant problems. It is possible to create sustainable urban systems in the cities of the Southern Federal District, but significant political and institutional changes will be required to overcome barriers.
