DESIGNING THE LIFE CYCLE OF TEXTILE PRODUCTS BASED ON CIRCULAR ECONOMY PRINCIPLES
Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of approaches to textile lifecycle design in the context of a circular economy. Drawing on materials from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, it explores the challenges of the linear production model, characterized by high levels of waste, low recycling rates, and rapidly declining product lifespans. The Make Fashion Circular concept, which encompasses product life extension, design for recycling, and the development of material circulation systems, is examined in detail. Particular attention is paid to digital tools for circular design, including digital product passports, blockchain solutions, and fabric labeling technologies. It is shown that digital traceability is a key mechanism for lifecycle transparency and efficiency. Barriers to the implementation of circular models are analyzed, including a lack of standards, limitations in sorting infrastructure, the difficulty of recycling blended fabrics, and low motivation for producers and consumers. Based on EMF recommendations, strategic directions for the development of the textile industry are presented, focused on sustainable models of production, recycling, and reuse of materials
