Abstract

The solid waste management system in Conakry faces severe structural, institutional and technical constraints due to rapid population growth and intensive urbanization. Despite reforms and the involvement of public and private actors, the current system remains inefficient: the regulatory framework is fragmented, infrastructure is limited and operational processes are poorly coordinated. The prevalence of organic and plastic waste highlights the need for dedicated and sustainable recycling channels. The study provides a systematic analysis of the sector, identifies key challenges, and identifies strategic measures to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and management of the waste management system in Conakry.
