Abstract

In modern economic conditions, information on the ecological properties of goods and on the environmental impact of production is an important factor in consumer choices. However, inaccurate information provided by manufacturers on labels can be a significant obstacle to sustainable consumption patterns. The purpose of this work is analyzing the products of various groups represented in the largest chain stores in Russia for the presence of eco-labels and the compliance of them with the requirements of GOST R ISO 14020, 14021, 14024 and 14025. In the course of the research was found that with the most frequent violation of the requirements of the above standards is observed in the category of goods "foodstuffs". Statements about the environmental friendliness of goods in this category are the vaguest, poorly confirmed and are no more than an element of the manufacturer's advertising campaign. The most substantiated are statements about the environmental friendliness of goods in the category "household chemistry". There are no significant price differences between eco-friendly and conventional goods in general. Eco-labelled environmental information is minimal for the vast majority of products. None of the analyzed eco-labels provides information on the impact of products on the environment over the full life cycle.
